La Broquerie Minor Hockey is deeply saddened by the events that occurred during the November 10th, 2024, game between the Sagkeeng Hawks and the La Broquerie Habs at the Sagkeeng Arena Multiplex. We unequivocally condemn any form of violence, racism, or disrespectful behavior. Such actions have no place in our sport or our community, and they stand in direct opposition to our core values of respect, inclusivity, and sportsmanship.
We take the allegations regarding the actions very seriously. This behavior, if confirmed, is wholly unacceptable and does not reflect the values of our organization or the La Broquerie community. We are fully cooperating with Local Law Authorities, Hockey Manitoba, Eastman Minor Hockey and other relevant parties in their investigation of this matter. However, as this investigation is ongoing, we will not be commenting on the details until it has been concluded to ensure due process and fairness.
Our organization takes pride in our strong Métis and Indigenous heritage, which is reflected in our community, minor hockey families and leadership Board. These values guide our efforts to foster an environment where hockey serves as a platform for unity, respect, and positive development for all players and families. La Broquerie Minor Hockey is committed to working with Hockey Manitoba, Sagkeeng Anicinabe Nation, and other stakeholders to ensure the implementation of measures that promote mutual respect, cultural understanding, and safe environments in youth sports. We support the development of a visitation and conduct agreement, as proposed by Sagkeeng leadership, to uphold these values in all interactions moving forward.
We extend our thoughts to all those affected by this incident and reaffirm our dedication to fostering a culture of sportsmanship, reconciliation, and mutual understanding.
